Prince Caspian
May. 18th, 2008 06:32 pmLittle Bit and I went up to Alderwood to see "The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian" today.
She liked it. And I think she decided Reepicheep is a role model. Gods help us all. (She could do worse, mind you....)
My personal opinion?
It wasn't bad. Very lush, very moving, and there were a few points that I had the tears in my eyes again.
And a couple points that annoyed me. The rivialry....okay, cockfight between Peter and Caspian. I wanted to tell them both "Give it a rest already" The romantic tension between Susan and Caspian. Little things like that.
Eddie Izzard did a wonderful voice for Reepicheep though.
Something you do start to notice is the seeds of Susan's eventuall fall from grace. She doesn't handle returning to Narnia very well, wailing that she had just gotten used to being back in England. (Peter too has had problems adjusting from being a King and adult to being a teen again, and had his own problems adjusting - and even more problems returning). Susan however, really seems to have more problems than Peter in coping, and makes you wonder if her eventual rejection of Narnia is for fear of getting hurt again - that by pretending it never happened or didn't exist, she can make it right. Though her rejection of a classmate's interest tends to make one really dislike her as well.
Edmund is interesting - in many respects, he's become the most mature of the lot, and determined not to repeat his mistakes from the first time they entered Narnia. In the movie, he becomes the level-headed foil for his hot-headed older brother. Lucy seems to just get exasperated by her older siblings more than anything.
The next one is going to be the critical one for me - Voyage of the Dawn Treader was the first one I read, and is still my favourite.

Date: 2008-05-19 01:41 am (UTC)It's tough to be a Narnia fan and be named Susan. Honestly.
I was troubled by the lesser quality of the fur textures and other animation this time, but I'm just cranky that Rhythm & Hues didn't get the contract this time. Unfortunately, it showed, particularly with Aslan.
I understand they turned right around and started shooting DAWN TREADER before the kids got much older. They are learning from the Harry Potter experience, aren't they? This was a better investment -- this 7-book set has already been completed before the movie deal. /sneer
