It's official

The rattle/slip on the transmission goes away when the engine temp goes up to a certain level. (about 1/3 of the way up the scale)

The problem? Saturn engines are usually pretty good at keeping the temp at around 1/4 of the way up.

But it does suggest it's the fluid. (Fluid colour is a dark red, not the normal bright red. But it doesn't look black or burnt.)

If the fluid is low, you should be able to funnel more fluid into the transmission via the dipstick- I do that on my PT when it's low.

And absolutely use the right fluid- trannies are insanly expensive.

I'm supposing if you looked @ the fluid, you checked the level?? When you get the fluid changed I'd suggest having the pan dropped in the transmission. Sometimes theres a sump filer or screen that gets clogged up and causes erratic slippage...
