Watched an internet replay of last nights VP debate.
Dear Gods, what the frak was going on?? Palin seems to have taken the approach of "Ignore the moderator and spew unrelated talking points like a surge of verbal diarrhea". Even Biden (which I freely admit I'm none too fond of) seems to have been taken aback by Palin's dogged refusal to answer questions or stick to the point.
Seriously, it seems like campaign strategy the McCain/Palin campaign is using boils down to "ignore the issues and please ignore everything that comes out of Palin's mouth"
Palin reminds me of the person in high school that thought they were popular but everyone hated in high school - because they would stab you in the back in a second.

Date: 2008-10-03 08:46 pm (UTC)That's what Fox News can do though (and actually has). They just have video clips of the candidates saying stuff. But not how it connects to what the moderator has said, or even any back and forth "debate" between the candidates. That's all they need though is her saying how much she's against "Gay Marriage" and how she doesn't want to "redefine marriage" and so she "agrees with Joe Biden", when at least for what Joe said he did NOT say that precisely.
Anyway.. hate her. Beauty queen with high charisma and comeliness, but with low wisdom and medium intelligence.. bah.
Warning: "in-the-tank" for Obama liberal talking
Date: 2008-10-04 03:40 am (UTC)While I'm not sure why you don't like Biden (then again, I'm not happy about his support of the bankruptcy bill), I thought he seemed like a really decent guy in this debate. He had a tightrope to walk, fighting the good fight without coming across as either condescending, "mean," or sexist, and he handled it perfectly. He was a gentleman while aggressively -- well, later in the debate he was aggressive -- defending his ticket and going after Senator John "WTF" McCain.
On the other hand, I didn't really see how Palin looked bad to the audience. Sure, anyone who had a grasp of the issues saw that she was utterly out of her depth (and on her few semi-knowledgeable zingers, if you bet she was lying, you were probably right), but those of us who know that frack have already made up our minds. Anyone who's undecided in October scares me. Not nearly as much as the notion of Palin's finger on the button, but still...
Again, the only issue I'm not incredibly liberal on is the 2nd Amendment, but I really don't think Palin's performance was that bad, given what she had to do in this debate. Her job was to sell her ticket to those undecideds and not have a "Couric moment." She managed expectations and succeeded at the second part, even if she didn't really succeed at the first part. (As with the Obama-McCain debate, the Democratic ticket was preferred 2-1 by undecideds.)
Frankly, I don't think McCain has a prayer outside some massive event like Obama being caught with a "dead girl or a live boy," or something very bad happening to Senator Obama. I almost feel bad for him -- he's caught between supporting Dubya and losing independents, or rejecting Bush and losing the wingnut base. Admittedly, his third option -- slime Obama with the same team that slandered him in South Carolina in 2000 -- is obscene, but it's all he has. I can't imagine what it'll be like for him when he loses -- honor gone, ambition gone, his party crushed...I actually feel a little bad for him, in spite of everything.
Ah, but what does a bleeding heart liberal know? ;-)
