'There's no stress': Couple weds at Taco Bell

"Wedding bells meant Taco Bell for Paul and Caragh Brooks.

Customers inside the fast-food restaurant continued to order tacos and burritos as the couple sat Friday in an orange booth at Taco Bell and exchanged vows.

"It's appropriate," groom Paul Brooks said. "It's an offbeat relationship."

Employees displayed hot sauce packets labeled with the words "Will you marry me?" They decorated the restaurant with streamers and balloons.

The bride wore a $15 hot pink dress and the entire wedding cost about $200. Several dozen guests looked on as the couple's friend, Ryan Green of Normal, administered the vows while wearing a T-shirt. He was ordained online.

You know what? Good for them. The wedding industry pushes this agenda of "YOU MUST SPEND FIVE DIGITS ON YOUR WEDDING BECAUSE--WELL, YOU MUST!", perhaps to de-emphasize the fact that a marriage starting out on such footing will likely crash and burn for lack of substance.

They got married where they liked, in clothes they liked, with food they liked, by a friend they liked. Emphasis on what they liked, not money. Mazel tov, and I hope they last forever.

You make a good point. I spend some time on alternative bridal sites (you'll never see me in a poofy white dress) and it is sociologically interesting to watch how women who are committed to an alternativly wedding still hold on tightly to ideas of what a wedding should look like perpetuated by the Wedding Industrial Complex.
