Happy Inauguration Day People......

On 4 November 2008, I wrote "We Did It" as Sen. Barack Obama was declared the winner of the 2008 Presidential Election.
On a cold foggy Seattle morning, in a classroom with teachers, staff, students, and parents, we watched as Chief Justice John Roberts swore Barack Hussein Obama II in as the 44th President of the United States.
At times you could have heard a pin drop. At other times, wild cheering. As was echoed by the crowds in Washington watching, groups of people all over the United States.
You saw the real America then, the real patriots. Those who see the challenges in our futures, and who can and will rise to meet those challenges.
You saw those who honour and respect our Country, our Constitution, everything that these United States stands for.
You saw those who believe in a peaceful transfer of power, a passing of the torch from one administration to the next.
The work begins all too early now. No time for games, partisan politics, or useless drivel like that.
As real Americans, real patriots, we reject the forces of hatred. Of ignorance. Of bigotry. Of blind unknowing rage.
You want to hate? Hate those who seek to destroy, to ruin, to lie.
You want to be a bigot? Be bigoted against stupidity, against ignorance, against rage.
We, has a nation, as a country, and as a people, are better than those petty sins though.
We are a nation of citizens, bound by laws, bound by the Constitution, and bound by our common history. And we have a united destiny - to be the torchbearers against the darkness, to cast light in the stale halls of ignorance, to bring new ways of thinking, freedom, and liberty to all.
To LEAD. Not to follow, not to tear down. To work with our allies to make this world a better place for all.
Conservative, Liberal, Moderate. Whatever your colour, whatever your race, whatever your gender, whatever your preference, whatever your politics, together we are Americans. And we can work together to forge this nation anew.
Today, we celebrate. (And Christina, thank you again for letting me play in your sandbox!)
And as I said on 5 November 2008, Tomorrow, the work begins.
