Kids' TV chef kills Easter bunny

"A children's TV chef looks to have gone a little too far after killing, skinning and cooking the Easter bunny.

Sarah Wiener, Germany's answer to Delia Smith, reduced some 12 to 15-year-olds to tears as the cute animals were stunned with an electric shock before having their throats cut.

Children were then asked to help skin the animals for TV show Sarah And The Kitchen Children.

'Children should know where their food comes from,' said Ms Wiener."

There's a reason why my cousins used to name their 4-h animals things like "Lamb Chop" and "Mutton Stew".

12-15 year olds? I'm with the chef -- that's old enough. Killing a bunny in front of kids young enough to believe in the Easter bunny would be questionable, but yeah, kids that old ought to know.

Well, the world has admittedly changed a lot since the 1950s, but my great-grandmother taught me how to wring a chicken's neck, singe it, pluck it, clean it, and cut it up when I was around 8-years-old. One of her sons taught me how to scale, clean, and fillet fish, and skin and gut small game a year or two after that. IMO, it doesn't harm children to understand the realities of life--although I do think *how* they're taught matters. (Said great-grandmother and great-uncle put a lot of emphasis on the clean kill. I still cringe when I eat store-bought meat because they would so *not* approve of factory farming.)

If they think THAT's bad, my dad (while still in the military) used to make a point of letting soldiers make "friends" with animals before they became dinner, before making a show of how quickly they would be taken away.
