Okay, there's various talk about things to replace Light Weapons in this kingdom if the planned ban actually goes though.

One idea, curiously enough, is to make an adult version of the light armor and foam weapon fighting that has been getting really popular with the below 16 crowd in this kingdom.

That being said, they need to come up with a better name for it. Calling it "Adult Boffers" brings up an entirely different mental image......

And lets not even go into the image of an adult boffers tourney.

Actually, I think that what will arise to replace lights is:

The Horde of Insufficient Light.

Remember the Dark Horde? Yang the Nauseating? Pranking royalty, whooping it up, making stuffy people look foolish?

Well, the Dark Horde has already been done. But with all the former lights fighters itching to blow off some steam and just perhaps emit a teeny bit of sarcasm in the direction of the throne, particularly about the banning of light weapons, I think the Horde of Insufficient Light is going to emerge. It's the immoral imperative.

Also, I think any time a heavy fighter calls "Light!" on a blow, people in the audience shoud yell back "There are no lights!"

The prospect is enough to make me consider showing up at SCA events for the first time in years.

I'm flinching at the thought of adding another age group (or three) to the boffer lists. See, the amount of trouble in running a boffer tourney tends to be proportional to the age of the kids. Little ones just swing for the fun of it and often don't care who wins. Then they care more. Then I get teenage boys trying to impress the girls in the audience and it's "that was a touch, wasn't it?" "Okay, we're going to recalibrate to no-force kill to get this over with" "Stop dancing and get in range of each other." I don't expect that to improve with the 20-year-olds.

And I don't want to think about bouts in the 50+ category. "Hey, I hit you!" "I didn't feel any blow!" "Yeah? How much vicodin are you on?" "Um, three tablets . . ."
