Well, since "Kushiel's Avatar" is due out right around now, I decided to re-read "Kushiel's Dart" and "Kushiel's Chosen" again.

"Dart" is, as usual, a wonderfully thoughful treat, even at the times that it's eroticism can be rather disturbing. "Chosen", however, actually plays out more as a classical historical / fantasy novel, and the erotic scenes, while a treat, are both widely scattered and rather vanilla in comparison to "Dart". Still, it goes into the details of the Night Court a bit better.

One of the complaints I heard about "Dart" was that it seemed to encourage the concept of child prostitution, (though, with the Night Court, it's more of a sacred or temple prostitution) . "Chosen" actually shows that there's more than one way that a member of the Night Court can earn their marque as an adept. Though sacred sexuality is still their normal stock in trade.

Still, there's some interesting concepts explored in the series, and the rather unqiue take on theology may actually be more unsettling for some than the sexuality aspect.

Looking forward to "Kushiel's Avatar".
