Them: "Well, why should we give you that day off??"

Me: "Because you treat your employees with respect. Because you want to make your employees happy. And because I have root-level access to all of your servers and am the only one who knows the passwords to your backups........"

Oh I wish. Oh, I'm so tempted to say this.......

"For the good of the laboratory. Because it is the right thing to do. And because I have poisoned your backups."

No, no, no.

"Because I have asked you. And because your loyalty to our employees should be greater than your ambition. And because I have poisoned your backups."

Not that they'd know the difference.

(Laugh) I knew somebody would catch that reference. I have good friends........

Besides, it was better than saying "I want to work here just long enough to see them cut off your head and stick it on a pike. As a warning to the next 10 SysAdmins that some jobs come with too high a price." :-)

Gee, does this mean you're going to nuke the servers and backups when you leave? Considering how flakey they are now they would never know. Blessed Be, Angelique

Actually, since I've done the upgrades, (FINALLY!), they're a lot less flaky and a lot more reliable. Haven't had the file server crash once since the upgrade for example. Mail and Web server only's been grumpy when teaching it new tricks, (like PHP)

"No good deed goes unpunished." This is a good thing and also a bad thing. *Nukes them for you* Blessed Be, Angelique
