patgundThere was a flyer up in the hallways here at the institute for a noontime meeting for all interested parties to mark the "National Day of Prayer" today.
Now, while the NDP was supposed to be inclusive of all faiths, it's become more of a Evangelical/Conservative Christian-only event in the last few years, sad to say. Since the flyer made no statement on if it was for all faiths or not, I sent a polite email to the person coordinating it asking if it was open to all faiths and religions.
Her response was that it was open to "Christians of all denominations and faiths".
I blinked, and sent back another polite email explaining that my question was if it was open to all faiths, as many at the institute, myself included, are not Christian.
Her reply was that since there is no religion *but* Christianity, and since this was a "Christian Nation", no other beliefs would be allowed to take part in the event she was organizing, but could attend if they wanted.

Somehow I don't think this is what the founders of this nation or the people who came up with the NDP intended. For that matter, I don't think it's what Christ himself had in mind for his followers.
