I used to like Anne Rice. Really. But almost everything she's written in the last 10 years has been....well....ranging from "not good" to "pure crap".

And this post from Anne Rice explains why they've not been good.

Well, her method explains my difficulty with Tale of the Body Thief and The Vampire Armand. However, I must dispute your position that her books have been crap over the past 10 years. I *LOVED* Memnoch the Devil, Pandora, and Merrick. These books were very interesting and well written.

As I said, "most", not "all". Merrick and Memnoch were fairly decent, Pandora had some continuity issues I found distracting.

I counted 14 books after queen of the damned. i enjoyed 6 of them, but 5 were bad (well, im still trying to read blood and gold). I have not yet read 3 of them. I still love Anne Rice, but I do think she needs to start allowing her editor to give her suggestions. Especially if she's not looking backwards. Sometimes she really gets stuck while describing a scene.

Oooh! I'm right there with you. This article explained a lot - thanks for sharing.

Good Grief!

I haven't read Rice yet, but mainly cause of the confusion of hearing how great she is in one breath and how crappy she is in the next. Reading this put it all in perspective for me.

(And PLEASE! I write myself, and I know my writing is only half of what it could be cause I don't get much in the way of criticism/editing. To try going it without any form of editor/beta reader is insanity)
