I saw (and posted) the video about the woman who had pole-vaulted past religious extremism to sheer insanity.

Since I don't get the show in question, I hadn't heard about her until I saw that video.

Turns out her name is Marguerite Perrin, and Wikipedia has an entry on her. She and her family live in Ponchatula, Louisiana, much, it seems to several resident's discomfort.

What caught my attention was this line:

"Marguerite Perrin initially refused the $50,000 prize money because the second family on Trading Spouses, the Fox camera crew, and the money were, in her words, "tainted" and "dark-sided." Later, Perrin accepted the money after being promised $20,000 for gastric bypass surgery."

(shakes head) Personally, I don't believe she's religious, but rather is psychotic and using religion as a framework for her psychosis. I think, sad to say, she's in dire need of mental help, and needs therapy far more than GBS.

And that's simply on one clip.

Wow.

I know people who are real Christians. Many are my friends. Some are more than simply friends. I respect their beliefs. And, despite this woman's words, I can't see her as anything other than hate-filled and in dire need of help. Certainly I can't call her a Christian without insulting those I hold dear that are of that faith.

If I understand how this show works correctly, each woman goes to live with the other family for a period of time. I don't know anything about the other family, (other than supposely they're "new agey" or something like that), and can just imagine the feelings they had in dealing with this woman. And as for the Perrin family, they have my deepest sympathies, and my hopes that, as embarassing as this may have been for them, it is the spark they needed to get their mother - and hopefully themselves, into some form of treatment.
