I like ice cream. it's very close to a comfort food for me.

The problem being is I can't handle milkfat very well. Large amounts of milkfat tend to make me very sick to my stomach.

So while my mind and mouth love ice cream, my digestive tract makes it about as welcome as John Norman at a Renunciate guild-house.

Which leads me up to last week, and finding cookies and cream ice cream at Family Food Centre. This is one of my favourite flavours, and when I found it, I followed the First Rule of Expat Grocery Shopping in Qatar - BUY IT!!! BUY IT NOW!!! Because you don't know when it will be there again.

Never mind the ice cream was a brand I had never heard of (Magnolia, made in the Phillipines). I grabbed it, where it sat in my freezer, waiting for the day that I would risk the wrath of my intestinal tract and indulge in that creamy goodness.

That day was today.

Placed it in the refrigerator to soften, and finally, when I couldn't wait any longer, took it out and got a bowl.

Note, ice cream should not, under ideal conditions, crumble in the carton.

Instead of that rich, creamy mouth feel, I got something that tasted and felt like sugar covered frozen corn starch. It didn't melt in my mouth, it just kinda fell apart, leaving behind a dusty sugar taste mixed with bits of cookie. No ice crystals like it had melted and refrozen, just a dry, dusty, slighly greasy feel and taste.

Ended up consigning the remains in the sink. I may put out the rest of the ice cream for the local cats, except I think they would be too smart to touch it.
