On a cold, snowy Seattle saturday morning,
seattlejo and I wandered down to Pikes Place Market, to have brunch at The Crumpet Shop
Hot tea, and very nice homemade crumpets. First round for me was a plain buttered crumpet, followed by a ham and egg crumpet. She had the ham, egg, and cream cheese crumpet, followed by maple butter, cream cheese, and walnut. I then had a VERY yummy maple butter crumpet, ( I cannot remember what her next one was though :-( ). We ended up splitting a Nutella one too.
The Lois McMaster Bujold fans on my list would be amused by the breakfast special of hot buttered groats in maple syrup, with your choice of oat/groat bread toast or a crumpet with preserves or maple butter. Sounds like a good Bararryan breakfast.......
Later in the day, in Seattle's International District, next to Uwajimaya, is a small shop called Samurai Noodle, specializing in real Japanese ramen.
Oh my goodness. SO good.
seattlejo had the tonkotsu (pork) broth "Samurai Armor Bowl" I had the shouyu (chicken) "Samurai Armor Bowl". Both came with a bowl of noodles, broth, and a side of pork cutlets, a flavored egg, bamboo shoots, nori, mushrooms, and green onion, to add into the ramen.
The broth was very light and flavorful, and the noodles, (I ended up getting extra noodles) were very good. They ask how you want the noodles cooked, we both opted for medium. Very nice meal on a cold snowy evening - and gave us enough energy to prowl the Japanese market and bookstore next to it, (with a really good Anime music selection.)
Lunch Sunday was Blue C Sushi in Fremont. I've always liked the plate by plate sushi places, and this one was particularly good, particularly the spider roll and the spicy tuna rolls. I should have tried a hand roll though. Next time. :-)
