My weekend....
Mar. 5th, 2007 10:08 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Thursday saw me at the airport to pick up
seattlejo. VERY happy reunion indeed. We checked into our hotel room in San Dimas, and later had dinner at Red Robin, followed by a quick stop at Sonic's in Anaheim for cherry and strawberry limeaids. Then off to Downtown Disney.
seattlejo has never been to Disneyland before, so this will have to be corrected at a later date. Still, Downtown Disney is a fun wander.
Hard to say which is more disturbing. A stuffed Mickey Mouse dressed as Captain Hook, or a stuffed Mickey Mouse dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow......
Friday saw my birthday, and the two of us going to the Santa Monica Pier. Alas, the rides were closed due to the wind. Still, very pretty.
Then off to Pinks Hot Dogs in Hollywood. Urrrgh. Good food, but....Minus side - the line. Plus side - the food was good, but overwhelming.
seattlejo had the Planet Hollywood Dog, (Polish Sausage, cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and onions). I had the Poli-Bacon Burrito Dog (w/ an extra polish sausage, cheese. chili, no onions) Both were very good, but mine could not be eaten with the hands, and almost defeated the plastic knife and fork. Or the chili was that corrosive...... I dislike onion rings, but these were good. Six hours later, we were still digesting our meal. Absolutely no appitite at all. The food was good, but I felt afterwards like a python that swollowed a VW bug. Not bad as touristy places go, but wow, bloat city.
Then a couple more stops, followed by Wackos in Hollywood. Or, as it should be called: "Archie McPhee's South". Damn fun to wander though, with the chances of being seriously dangerous to your pocketbook. But if you want a tiki coffee mug, pepper lights, books on classy sex sleeze paperback covers, or anything else along those lines, your choices are Wacko, or Archie McPhee.
Then a stop at my flat in Monrovia, followed by meeting
morgan_gw,
rolandx their son, and
henglaar at Fuddruckers for a birthday dinner. We were still bloated from Pinks, but the company was good.
Saturday morning was breakfast at Flappy Jack's Pancake House in Glendora. OMG so good. She had the cherry-filled crepes. The cherry compote was very sweet at good. I had the blueberry waffle. They didn't skimp on the blueberries - the batter was full of them, and they had a blueberry compote in case I felt I had insufficient blueberriage. My scrambled eggs were good, the bacon would have been better if crispier, but that's a minor note.
We then picked up Little Bit, (
seattlejo and her hit it off very well), and out to the Build-A-Bear store in the Glendale Galleria, where
seattlejo got Little Bit's expert help in making a teddy bear for her to bring back to Seattle. After Little Bit went home, we met
selenesue at BPAL's Will Call pickup. BPAL was on the verge of reaching a critical mass of goth concentrate, getting ready to collape into a black pierced and tattooed singularity. However, Will Call was very fun, especially getting to sample all their addictive scents in an enviroment that reminded one of a scene in an Anne Rice book back in the days when she didn't suck.
Then to the Studio City Todai for sushi, ending up at
selenesue's apartmemt for the most sadistic Japanese cooking game show I've ever seen, Dotchi no Ryōri Shō or Dotch Cooking Show. This one was particularly fun, since one of the chefs was Iron Chef Hirouki Sakai, who won with a Hayashi Rice dish.
Sunday was breakfast at BC Cafe in Claremont. Wow. This breakfast & lunch place had the biggest pancakes I've ever seen, (the size of a plate, and easy 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick), and four egg omelets, (heck, at four eggs, these were full-fledged omes).
seattlejo had the bacon-avocado ome(let), and we shared the four HUGE pancakes that came with it. I had the country meal, so named because it could feed a couple small countries. Biscuits and gravy, home fries, bacon, and eggs. All of which was very good, very well done, and VERY large.
Then to my flat to snuggle, a trip to Dragonmarsh in Riverside, and then the last few hours of the stay wandering around Ontario Mills. Dinner at Fuddruckers, where we actually HAD an appitite for the food, and stardust filled discussions of the future between us.
Going to the airport was one of the hardest things I've done. There were times I wanted to just break into tears. I hate these good-byes. Oh, yeah, I know they're needed right now, but I do NOT like them. Going home was just as hard.
6-8 weeks.......
