Why does Los Angeles seem to like to place parks on the sites of disasters???
I had known for a while about Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, which used to be the Baldwin Hills Reservoir until 1963 when it cracked and flooded the neighborhood, killing five people.
Tonight I found out that a common tourney site for the SCA here, Veterans Memorial Park, is the site of the Veterans Administration Hospital at San Fernando, which collapsed in the 1971 Sylmar quake, killing 49.
Curious indeed.
