Well, given my experience with both brands, this is probably an improvement? eMachines were a cute idea, but they had significant quality control problems!
My wife has an old PIII emachine and my daughter has an Athlon one. Both work great. I agree that the early ones were junk. And after the merger I wouldn't buy one.
