"BotBL 2 - When Llamas Attack!"
Aug. 31st, 2009 02:52 pmAuthorities unable to capture llama
"A llama remains on the loose in northern Mower County despite deputies shooting it with a gun and stun guns Saturday.
Two deputies responded about 6:30 p.m. to the report of a llama on the loose west of Waltham near Mower County roads 1 and 16. The llama escaped from a nearby property on Aug. 24 and has been causing trouble since then, Sheriff Terese Amazi said.
The deputies each shot the adult llama with their Tasers, but it had no effect, Amazi said. One deputy shot it with a firearm, but the animal continued to elude them, she said.
"It's causing a traffic issue" and eating flowers and garden plants, Amazi said.
The llama's owner, Belinda Hochstetler, who has been unable to capture the animal, agreed that authorities could shoot the animal because of the safety issues, Amazi said."
