Having grown up reading way the hell too many Darkover books though high school (at least up until City of Sorcery, which was so Gods-awful it nuked any and all interest in the series), I can say that this pretty much sums it up in one.

Today I Am A Darkover Book

"SLIGHTLY OLDER COMYN LORD WHO LOOKS JUST LIKE THE HERO EXCEPT MEANER: I just did something! Something wicked and unnatural!

COMYN LORD AND LADY: *accidentally have sex due to wicked-and-unnatural-related stress*

COMYN LADY: I’m pregnant with your baby! It may be a monster. It may also be the promise of a better future, depends on the book.

SLIGHTLY YOUNGER COMYN LORD/LADY WHO HAS SUCH POTENTIAL: I just did something! Something selfish and ignorant!"

I like MZB's older stuff but never got into the darkover books. I never could figure out why either something was wrong with me OR most everyone else. Hmmm...now I think it's a wee bit of both!
