Canadian Idiots on Parade........
Apr. 8th, 2004 02:16 pmYou know, a couple of years ago, that wonderful satirical newspaper The Onion published a article titled Harry Potter Books Spark Rise in Satanism Among Children.
The problem was that some people took it seriously and failed to realize it was satire, and used it to write a rather hysterical article against the books.
You would think, after all that, people would *check* articles they find on the web. And you would, it seems, be wrong.
"Trustee seeks apology for spoof photo: Parents opposing a school program used a picture from a satirical newspaper on their pamphlets.
"The photo shows a teacher at the front of a class with explicit sexual images and terms drawn on the board and is supposed to represent one of the "countless" classrooms where homosexuality is promoted. The picture was copied from the Onion, a satirical newspaper from the United States."
The article goes on to say that the writer of the paper "spent seven weeks in research", (which, it seems, did no good whatsoever), and referred to "The Onion" as "a gay paper", (no, satire and humour are not restricted to the gay community only). She goes on to say, (as an attempt I presume to save face):
""We don't come by our findings lightly. . . . Whether it was meant to be a joke or not, it's not funny to parents who are trying to protect their children."
Can we say "egg on face", boys and girls ??? As I said, idiots on parade.........
