So let's see. Rush believes that "liberals", (by which I suspect he means anyone who disagrees with him), should have our guns taken away from us. Also we shouldn't be allowed to own computer keyboards or typewriters, word processors or use e-mail. AND should have their right to freedom of speech taken away. And the result would be a "sane, calm, civil, fun-loving society".

Riiiiight.

Rush Limbaugh: Liberals Should Have Their Speech Controlled & Not Be Allowed To Buy Guns

While most of the country acquiesced to a call for civility on both sides, Mr. Limbaugh upped his hate speech and violent rhetoric, crossing that line proverbial line once more. Most news sources have abstained from playing the blame game any further, but Limbaugh is putting all the blame right on the left wing’s doorstep.

I’ve got the solution to all this. I’ve got the solution to most crime in America. From this day forward, somebody propose it, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns. It’s just that simple. Liberals should have their speech controlled and not be allowed to buy guns. I mean if we want to get serious about this, if we want to face this head on, we’re gonna have to openly admit, liberals should not be allowed to buy guns, nor should they be allowed to use computer keyboards or typewriters, word processors or e-mails, and they should have their speech controlled. If we did those three or four things, I can’t tell you what a sane, calm, civil, fun-loving society we would have. Take guns out of the possession, out of the hands of liberals, take their typewriters and their keyboards away from ‘em, don’t let ‘em anywhere near a gun, and control their speech. You would wipe out 90% of the crime, 85 to 95% of the hate, and a hundred percent of the lies from society.

Most of his actions are condoned by his fans, saying he’s ‘an entertainer’, however, this has no redeeming qualities of entertainment or humor. If our de facto leader said this, Conservatives would be buying ammo until they’re sold out of stock.

I can see his point. No, seriously. He's an entertainer (first and foremost... people forget this), and says stuff to provoke a reaction and get ratings. The problem is that his audience doesn't see him as a simple entertainer presenting fiction... they see him as a political pundit who is really saying something of meaning that should be followed.

(I got this understanding after reading his first book, and I've never taken him seriously since. Tom Leykis made similar points from the other side. The problem is that listeners aren't smart enought to realize this. Hey! I've got a solution to all our problems. Let's just take radios away from the talk radio audiences!)

If you've ever listened to him, you'd know he was a satirist. Taking this seriously is as unrealistic as taking Ann Coulter seriously when she suggested repealing women's suffrage.

You know, I've never bought into the "he's an entertainer" line. Considering the people who take every word he says as simon-pure gospel *and* considering whenever he passes gas, he's got conservative pundits, GOP officials, and elected Republicans ready to go on the air and agree that "yes, yes it does smell like lilacs".

Limbaugh - like Coulter - may not mean the stuff that falls out of their mouths, but they also know that other people are quite willing to accept it as the truth.

And yes, I've listened to him in the past. Which has been usually enough for me to want to put my fist though the radio. Friend of mine tried to get me to listen to him when I was a Libertarian figuring it would drive me over to being a Conservative. I suspect it's the reason I went the other way into being a Moderate instead.

Besides which, freedom of speech and the right to bear arms are two of my touchstone issues, and I'd be just as pissed at ANYONE anywhere on the political spectrum who publically suggested taking those rights away from any group they might disagree with. Funny thing that :-)

BTW, miss you!
