patgundOn May 19th, I had made a post about the Texas State Comptroller denying tax-exempt status for a Unitarian-Universalist church due to the church "not having one system of belief"
After some controversy on the subject, including an article showing the debate in the May 22nd edition of the Star Telegram, the Texas State Comptroller's office has reversed their original finding.
Denison church's tax-exempt status granted
There is a theory being floated in blogspace that the intent behind the original decision from Comptroller Carole Strayhorn may have been an attempt to court the religious right in order to challenge Texas Governor "Goodhair" Perry in 2006. Certainly she's been critical of Perry of late, including his idea of taxing strip clubs $5 per admission.
