Plans change......

patgundWell, my original plan was that Saturday, I was going to drive down old highway 80 all the way to El Centro, check into a Motel 6, study, and then drive the old highway back Sunday, trying to find a hot springs on the way and taking pictures.
Didn't quite work that way.
Oh, I got the driving to El Centro part down. Got a lot of wonderful pictures of the old highway, including walking some closed and abandoned sections. Some really nice sections around Jacumba and along eastbound I-8, (which is pretty much the 1950's alignment of Hwy 80.) All in all, a nice drive.
Until I got to El Centro. And found out that the Motel 6's air conditioning was broken. A quick check found that most of the decent motels in El Centro were booked. Since at 7:00, the temperature was still around 100, this was not a minor problem - especially considering how heat sensitive I am.
Besides which, having come down from a batch of climing around the 3000-4000 foot level, down to 50 feet below sea level, my lungs were feeling rather abused.
Debated going on to Yuma, but started getting discouraged over the idea.
Since El Centro has a Sonic, (yay!), I sat down over a cherry limeade and tater tots and debated what to do.
And ended up driving back to Lakeside. Down I-8 this time, since I wasn't confident enough to trust my driving skills down Hwy 80 at night.
Still got a lot of good pictures though.
