For friends that either live in Escondido, or pass though it.

You know the Rite Aid on Centre City Parkway, in the same shopping centre as Major Market?? (Store # 5629, 1825 S Centre City Pkwy)

Avoid the place like the plague.

On my way back from visiting Little Bit, I stopped in to get some body wash. They didn't have what I was looking for, so I left, stopping by a "free, take one" AOL CD display to get one more for my collection.

I had just dropped the disk in my back seat when I hear someone calling out "Sir", I look up, and there's a rather pissed off looking guy in a white shirt and Rite Aid name-tag, shouting at me "What did you take??".

I say "Free AOL CD" and start to get into my car.

He suddenly yanks open the back door of my car and attempts to grab the item on my back seat, (which was my travel overnight bag) I yank it away and slam the door close.

Let me repeat this. He *opens* my car and attempts to remove *my* personal property from the back seat.

For a minute I think he's going to swing at me, instead he whips out his cell phone and starts to scream that he's calling the police and will have me arrested for theft. (Yes, theft. Over a free AOL CD.) At this point, I call 911 myself, and tell the Escondido police department to please send someone over, as I wish their determination as to if I need to file breaking and entering charges, as well as attempted theft charges of my own.

While waiting for the police, he was insultive and abusive, constantly calling me "ignorant", insulting my parents and upbringing, and saying I "looked like a janitor", and I "needed to get a job". I'm a trained, certified IT professional working as a System Administrator for a biological research institute. Certainly I don't fall under whatever criteria he's using. (I also had a shower that day, was cleanly shaven, and my shoulder length hair was ponytailed back)

Escondido Police arrive, and I flag them over to my car. Two cruisers with two officers. I reported the incident to them, and offered to allow them to search my car if they felt the need to. (They checked it out, found nothing, and thanked me.) All the time, the manager is insulting me, and demanding they check out the back of my station wagon because he claimed I had some unspecified item back there. They ran my drivers license and plate, talked with me and the manager, and eventually allowed me to go on my way with no sanctions. They asked me if I wanted to file charges against the manager, and I said I would prefer not to at that time until I discuss the incident with the manager's supervisors and/or legal council. I will bring up the matter with Rite Aid tomorrow morning.

Note, the manager refused to give me his name, hiding his name badge when I tried to read it. The name "Eddy Brown" was given to me by the Escondido Police Department. The Escondido Police Department officers were polite, friendly, and I apparently answered all questions to their satisfaction. "Eddy Brown", on the other hand, was still yelling, demanding they arrest me, as I got into my car and drove to Major Market, and they were still outside Rite Aid talking to him when I left 5 minutes later.

I have no idea what the hell got into his bonnet. He wanted to have me arrested for "stealing" a free CD. Sigh.

If you were a thief...he put himself in so much danger......He is an Idiot...Someone please remove him from the gene pool

What he did was uncalled for and stupid
