I live in a place where neither DSL or Cable service is offered. Needless to say, dial up is getting old quickly.

I admit, three years of having the broadband at the lab spoiled me. But, since I shant be back at the institute until April at the earliest, that's not an option right now.

Since I have a laptop with WiFi / Airport ability, I wonder if anyone in the San Diego area can recommend some free WiFi hotspots that I might be able to use?

Thanks!

DirectTV's satellite broadband service is, the last I knew, bi-directional and requires "a clear view of the southern sky". Latency gets pretty bad at times, but that apparently only matters for the hard-core gamers.

Problem is that sat dishes of any type are not allowed in my park. (grumble) Otherwise, I would have saved my pennies and got one by now. Oh well.

:-(

Do you have space looking out a window? I have it on reasonably good authority that the signal will get through a window just fine.
