And old US-101 gets, well, if not re-signed in San Diego, at least noticed.

Oceanside gives old Highway 101 new signs

"Just in case motorists get confused as they drive the scenic coastal Highway 101 and think for a moment they are on Route 66 or Interstate 805, now they can just need to look down at the pavement to find out where they are.

A visibly happy Oceanside Transportation Manager Frank Watanabe supervised workers Tuesday as they spray-painted 6-foot-by-6-foot shields on both north- and south-bound traffic lanes of South Coast Highway at Wisconsin Street, and then dusted the artwork with reflective powder."

I'm hoping my next north-south road trip will be going up 101 to Olympia, Washington, and then taking a few days to explore more portions of ex-US 99. (though I suspect I'll be making another side trip across the border when I do that......

Neat!

I wonder if they will do the same in Indio for old US 99.

Well, considering that there's that US 99 museum / truck stop there, it would make sense.

The part I was annoyed about with my last trip up old 99 was that Shasta Lake was low enough that you could actually see the *old* bridge, (which is usually underwater). And, since I didn't know it was there, I didn't stop to look. Now, with all the rain we've gotten, it's doubtful I'll have another chance anytime soon.)
