I'm working on my resume and letter of interest to the headhunter, expressing interest in applying for the Qatar job, when I see this charming bit of news....

"Car bomb targets theatre in Qatar"(BBC News)

"A suspected suicide bomber targeting a theatre near a British school in Qatar has killed one male Briton and injured about 12 other people.

The car bomb blast occurred at the Doha Players theatre outside the capital, Doha, where Shakespeare's Twelfth Night was being performed."

I'm still going to apply, but I suspect I'm going to be taking the claims from people that Qatar is "boring" with a grain of salt...... (And just means I have to weigh the danger value vs. the salary. So far, Qatar is still safer than many other parts of the region.)

None the less, that sounds like the sort of theatre you would have been taking in so it makes ME nervous as all get out. Well, you have to consider that "boring" normally concerns entertainment and dating NOT danger to life and limb. How many OTHER car bombs have they had? Any place in the Middle East is a potential attack site with all the fanatics running around as well as the U.S. these days. Blessed Be, Angelique

When my parents lived in England, they called me at least twice to let me know that the latest car bomb had missed them. One time it was close, too. I was about to tell you, "Eh, maybe you should think twice," but then I remembered that.

Not that I want to see you leaving SoCal behind, but you need to decide for yourself what's right.

Doha's where Shadow was taking his "vacation".

The impression I get from my friend is that on the whole, relatively stable oil-dependent monarchies (or sheikhdoms, or feifs, or whatever) do NOT like terrorists messing with the employees of their primary sources of wealth. You would still almost certainly be safer in Qatar than in some SD neighborhoods once the sun goes down.
