Planet Magrathea got to see a sneak preview of the "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" movie.

And was not impressed.

"The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy movie is bad. Really bad. You just won't believe how vastly, staggeringly, jaw-droppingly bad it is. I mean, you might think that The Phantom Menace was a hopelessly misguided attempt to reinvent a much-loved franchise by people who, though well-intentioned, completely failed to understand what made the original popular - but that's just peanuts to the Hitchhiker's movie."

That being said, I still plan to see it......even if I have to end up using my towel to cry on.

Disagreement [no spoilers]

I read the in-depth review and don't agree with quite a number of the writer's complaints. He evidently has little awareness of how to adapt a screenplay from other media. I'm not sure that Douglas Adams had done all that much of it either but he gave it a fair shot. I intend to go in with an open mind and some foreknowlege that whilst the plot and some lines were altered for cinematic purposes, the basic quest is the same: where can a lost Englishman have a sit down and a nice cup of tea?

Frankly, I can't see how anyone could complain, "the film also suffers by having an entirely nonsensical plot. It is driven by convenience and unexplained happenings. Characters just happen to be where they need to be and have what they need to have, even if it makes no sense for them to be there or to have that." Seems to me that pretty much sums up the book as well.
