Just finished watching "In a Mirror, Darkly - Part 1", on "Star Trek Enterprise"

Damm. And once more, damm.

Why on earth couldn't they have done episodes this good in previous seasons. Why does this have to happen during the series death throes??

Oh, that's right. It's because Berman and Braga blow dead, rotting, purple penguins.

Pretty much, yeah. Not to mention Leslie Moonves, the then-head of Viacom whose decision it was. That was amazingly good, and the images of the Defiant, both external and on the bridge, had my heart in my throat.

*sigh* When it's good, it's very, very good. When it's bad, it sucks dilithium.

I can't wait to seem them all next week in original series uniforms.

Yeah, I finished it not quite an hour ago on the Bay Area UPN affiliate....

The number on the captured Constitution-Class ship was NCC-1768, or something similar... did you happen to catch the name on it?

Oh! Duh! Of course! Of Course!

Sheesh. I had no idea where they were going with the plot. I wasn't thinking, I guess.

If they had picked up the Defiant a few hours earlier, we might have had to construct a CGI James T. floating around... Well at least I know where they could have rented the suit cheap.

Notice that the Mirror Tholians seem to have a faster web process than the "regular" universe Tholians of a century later. No three-hour "weaving" this time!

Or, has the owner of said suit calls it currently, the "Silver Sausage" :-)

Well, You could theorise that the Mirror Tholians live near a hostile and expansionist empire, and therefore they needed to focus more on weapons development than the regular Tholians. Hence the faster web projectors. And hence the reason they triggered the explosion that caused the Interphase rift in the first place - in hopes of attracting alien ships with more advanced technologies.

What I'm curious about is this: If the Terran Empire manages to get a 100 boost from the Defiant, then why, by Kirks's time, were they still at that tech level. The only reason I can think of is that the Empire doesn't lend itself to technological development and improvement, rather they seem content with stealing technology from other races. So by Kirk's time, they're still using copies of 100 year old ships. (not to mention that it may take them 25 years or so to develop the intrastructure to produce copies of the Constitution-class.)

I thought it was a pretty good episode. I especially like how they modified the opening.
