Diet Coke w/ Splenda
May. 23rd, 2005 12:18 amI got a 20 oz. bottle of the new Diet Coke w/ Splenda tonight.
Now, bear in mind I mostly drink diet drinks. Regular sugared drinks have become too sweet for me, and my three favourites are Diet Barq's Root Beer, Regular Diet Coke, and Diet Dr Pepper.
So my first impulse when I drank the Diet Coke w/ Splenda was "Blegh!" Because to me, it tasted horrible. Because I was expecting Diet Coke. But I tried it again, and realized what it tastes like.
It tastes like regular sugared Coca-Cola. Actually almost like cane sugared, rather than that nasty high-fruitose corn syrup that most US-made sodas use in place of real cane sugar. And it doesn't have the nasty sticky filmy taste on the back of the teeth that Coca-Cola has.
Overall, I could get used to this stuff, but mainly by not thinking of it as a diet cola. Would like to see Splenda used in other mainstream sodas though - a Splenda version of Dr Pepper or Mountain Dew would be killer, if they also tasted the same as the sugared versions.
