Pastor accused of witchcraft

"It may not be focused on the horrors that befall college students in some creepy woods, but Mahoning County now has its own ‘‘Blair Witch Project,’’ complete with elements of witchcraft and intrigue.

The Rev. Mark Musser of Austintown is suing Emmanuel Lutheran Church from which he was fired on claims that he was involved in witchcraft."

Lutheran witchcraft? What did he do, turn water into hotdish?

Of course, I won't be able to read it until I'm back, but still...

Carey Switches Kushiel Heroes

"A very busy SF author Jacqueline Carey—whose fourth Kushiel book, Kushiel's Scion, comes out June 12—told SCI FI Wire that this book begins a new trilogy featuring the character Imriel as narrator. He takes over for Phèdre, the heroine from the first three books. "For me, to keep the writing fresh and compelling in an ongoing series, characters need to grow and develop over time, and their stories need to explore different themes," Carey said in an e-mail interview. "I love Phèdre, ... but the dramatic arc of her story was finished at the end of Kushiel's Avatar, while Imriel's was just beginning."

And thankfully, a writer that seems to know when to leave characters at rest. Not Robert Jordanthat I'm Anne Rice naming any Laurel K. Hamilton names, mind you.....

SCA Rant

(This is an edited version of a rant I posted on the Caid mailing list. To a certain degree, the same comments are quite true of fandom as well)

There is a lot of joy and wonder in the SCA. But too often then not that joy and wonder blinds people to the very real problems and flaws that remain. Too many people see their experiences - good and bad - as the norm. And as such, they either see the flaws as non-existant, or not able to be repaired.

Rest of rant behind cut )
