Woman jailed for testicle attack (BBC News)

"A woman who ripped off her ex-boyfriend's testicle with her bare hands has been sent to prison.

Amanda Monti, 24, flew into a rage when Geoffrey Jones, 37, rejected her advances at the end of a house party, Liverpool Crown Court heard.

She pulled off his left testicle and tried to swallow it, before spitting it out. A friend handed it back to Mr Jones saying: "That's yours."

Monti admitted wounding and was jailed for two-and-a-half years."

Okay, the users are being thicker than normal today. Sydney and Brussels are really being dame-bramaged. Some tripe about metors last night keeping them awake. Which doesn't excuse the tech problems today.

Even here at the main office, there's some thickies going on. I know the coffee machine is broken today, but they're really shuffling around and moaning. Did the staff have a blowout and didn't tell the contractors??

And what the hell is with the sirens going on? All over LA today has been testing out those WWII surplus sirens. Amazing the things still work. Someone in DHS must have gotten a bee in their bonnet and doing some disaster drill. And it wasn't helping that a lot of drivers were more braindead than usual. Nothing on the radio but top 40 and some of the more mindless right-wing blowhards.

I swear, you'd find more brainpower at a zombie weight-watcher's group.

Seems like parts of LA have all gone "Watts Riots / Rodney King Riots, version 3.0" I keep hearing more sirens, the fire trucks keep going by, there's smoke over parts of Culver City, and we've even seen some Humvees pass by.

Kinda starting to wish my 9mm was in my car or backpack rather than back at my flat. Or maybe a good dagger or two. California's idiot weapons laws strike again.

Why do I feel like it's gonna be a long day here?

One advantage of being an old highway buff. I know enough of the surface streets and the like that I may be able to bypass freeways and smaller surface streets to get back to my flat. That is, if we are seeing riots.

Still no news though. Something on BBC and CNN about viral outbreaks. Revenge of the Bird Flu??

On the other hand, Astronomy Picture of the Day has some REALLY beautiful shots of that meteor fall last night, taken from the ISS and Atlantis.

Looks like the internet has lost some backbones today. Thankfully it's rerouted around the problems, but there's some major latiency right now.

Geting a bit worried about the crap outside. Looks like Bitmum and LIttle Bit are okay, and [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo has said things at her workplace are fine.

Damn. I hate LA.

However, if my life was GOING to imitate a flippin' George Romero movie, why wouldn't it at least imitate Knightriders???

I mean I'm already used to glassy eyed shambling figures moaning incoherently. I work Tech Support for Gods sake!!!

Okay, it looks like we have a serious infestation of the living dead going on. I haven't seen this many glassy eyed soulless horrors since I went though EST training in the 80's.

A couple people already decided to ask me questions about escape routes, using my old highway knowledge.

San Diego

San Diego county has a couple major problems. Namely the county has major bottlenecks leading in and out.

North - You have two major options, I-5 and I-15. I-5 has Camp Pendleton to deal with, and the base may be in lockdown. If you can make it to the view point north of the rest areas and Las Pulgas road, break the fence and go north on the old portion of US-101 that the state beach uses.

I-15, you can use a lot of ex US-395 from Escondido on, but you're going to have bottlenecks. Be careful. You can also use Pala Road (76) to S16 to leave from either I-15 or Escondido.

A minor route is 67 to Ramona, then 78. You can follow 78 out to the East, or head north on 76.

East - I-8 is your main route, but a LOT of old US-80 is in excellent shape. At Descanso, you can use 79 to meet up with 78. However, past Jacumba, you'll have to meet up with I-8 again. Big bottleneck.

http://www.gbcnet.com/ushighways/US80.html

Los Angeles

North and East of Los Angeles, you again have bottlenecks. Hwy 1, US 101, I-5, I-15, and I-80.

There's jack that can be done with Hwy 1 or US 101 really. I-5 though, well, check out http://www.ridgeroute.com/ for possible routes out. Much of ex US-99 is still in place, but Pyramid Lake is gonna be the PITA portion to get by

Which reminds me, I-210 is gonna be a zoo. Try ex US-66 or portions of ex US-99

Same goes for I-15. If you can get past Cajon Pass, then you can use Route 66 to get to Barstow.

I-10 east follows portions of ex 99, and parts of 99 are drivable. DON'T GET CAUGHT IN DEAD ENDS!!! They may end up being all too real.

"Hi Patrick, this is (blank) at the Sydney office". Can you help me with a problem??"

"Surething"

"Well, you see, (name of co-worker) just died. We had to push him out the window to escape his hunger. But he left some important paperwork on his laptop. Can you reset the password?"

"Sure, we're dealing with the metabolically challenged ourselves right now, just a second" (logs into system via ARD) "Okay, I've removed his password, so you should be able to access his account"

"Thanks!"

"No problem, keep your head low, okay?"

Cajun Fried Brain

Ingredients

1 beef brain
1 cup flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
oil to fry
Tony Chachere's or Cajun Seasonings

Directions
Gently take brain in palm of hand and remove the membrane that covers entire brain. Sometimes there are also small blood clots embedded in brain which have to be removed.

Season brain with Tony Chachere's or Cajun seasonings (salt, black pepper and cayenne). Mix flour and corn meal in bowl. Gently put brain in mixture to coat entire outer area. Drop in very hot oil and fry approximately five minutes. The time will depend on size. If brain is large it will take five minutes. It the brain is in small pieces, just cook until golden brown.

Just heard from roommate. [livejournal.com profile] cormac tells me we don't HAVE a flat anymore. Seems one of the neighborhood kids became a member of the undead-american community, and he pitched a cannister of salt at it.

Note, salt works REALLY well on the metabolically challenged. Dey blowed up real good. Alas, so did the flat.

Gonna head east soon to check on Little Bit and determine escape routes. Thankfully I have my laptop with me. [livejournal.com profile] cormac has my pistol though. May have to rumage around here a bit. We're across from a marina, some flare pistols may not be a bad idea.

So not looking forward to the drive. Shambling, slow-moving, mindless hoards, acting on instinct alone. Doesn't this describe rush hour on the 405 and the 10 NORMALLY???

[livejournal.com profile] seattlejo, can Little Bit (if needed) and I come up and live with you?

Heading out. Just got some flare guns from the marina. Managed to dump a zombie into the water. Oh man, salt water + zombie = yuck.

But that meant I found a garden sprayer at the marina. Filled with salt water, it can be large amounts of fun. I may want to stop by a home despot on the way in - chain saws may be gone, but they should still have rock salt

Reports are that most the freeways are FUBAR, but I think I can plot out a few secondary routes. Will check up on Little Bit and see where to go from there.

Gahhh. What a day.

Well, between the shambling hordes on the freeway and and mindless hordes on the streets, my trip from work was ziggied more than usual. Salt water in my Saturn's windshield fluid tanks helped a lot. As did the occasional squirt out the window, (thank you Culver City Toys R Us for the Super Soakers!)

A quick stop by the remains of the flat to scavange. Fire damage seemed to be confined to the kitchen, bathroom, and some of the upstairs apartment. I was able to grab my sword, staff, some clothing, first aid kit, the necklace [livejournal.com profile] seattlejo gave me, pictures of Little Bit, and my snuffles bear, TomGund. The MacMini and hard drive were also thrown into a bag as well.

Then out to BitMum and Little Bit. The chunk of SB county they're in is very safe right now, and they're waiting for [livejournal.com profile] cormac to show up, (and I can retrieve my pistol. I suspect we're going to go north in a bit - BitMum knows some safe areas to the north, and the route there can lead me on to Seattle via mostly rural routes.

I made a quick trip to the local WalMart. Pretty picked over, but sleeping bags, tents, and dried food were to be had. As well as a couple hunting knives and axes. And some DEET-based insect repellent, incase this does have a insect vector.

Things have quieted down some. Between the zombies seeming to focus more on the malls (FOOD COURT!! Oh,sorrry), and the fact that this virus seems to have a finite life span, I suspect most of the people who would get infected have been infected. We may be looking at flareups for a while though.

On edit - I seem to be correct. CNN is reporting that CDC is claiming the virus has roughly 36 hours before it "burns out" the host and the zombie goes from walking dead to dead dead. It's gonna be one hell of a cleanup though, and months until the flareups stop for good.

I figure they must have been vegans when alive, because they kept moaning "Graaainns........gggraaainnss......"

Ihop Bids for Applebee's Restaurant Chain, People Say

"Ihop Corp., the biggest U.S. pancake-house chain, offered to buy Applebee's International Inc., people familiar with the matter said.

The bid was for more than $2 billion, a person with direct knowledge of the offer said. There may be other bidders, said the people, who declined to be identified because the proposal isn't public. Applebee's stock-market value is about $1.92 billion.

Ihop, which has about 1,300 locations and half the market value of Applebee's, said in February it may acquire a chain that isn't a competitor. Applebee's, with 1,900 casual-dining restaurants, began seeking a buyer after shareholder Breeden Capital Management LLC nominated four board candidates in December and called the stock's performance a ``disaster.''
