Now, I admit, I thought the MoveOn ad on Gen. Petraeus was over the top, and was Yet Another Reason why I don't support MoveOn.

But what I found weird were the pundits and talking heads, (Bill O'Reilly among them) who condemmed the ads, claiming you don't attack a "decorated war hero."

Really??

I agree, attacking someone who is serving or has served their country in the military, because you don't agree with them politically, is very tacky.

I'm sure that the same pundits and talking heads that condemmed the attacks on Gen. David Petraeus (Legion of Merit(4), Bronze Star), will also equally condemm the same type of attacks on:

Lt. John Kerry, USN (Siver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart(3))

Capt. Max Cleland, USA (Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart)

Gen. Wesley Clark, USA (Legion of Merit(4), Silver Star, Bronze Star(2), Purple Heart)

Capt. John McCain, USN (Legion of Merit, Distingished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart)

Lt. James Webb, USMC (Navy Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star(2), Purple Heart(2))

All of whom, at one point or another, have had their military records attacked. In many cases by many of the same people decrying the MoveOn attack on Gen. Petraeus.

My favourite character in the Star Wars films, is, no surprise, R2-D2. So as a result, I've picked up a lot of various Astromech figures in the last 30-odd years.

Well, I brought up a batch with me to go with R2-KT, and they seem to be now doing a tribble impression, as I now have 15 (with the addition of an R3-D3 and R4-MT from "Star Tours" as well, and a yellow Y-wing R5, all gifts I recieved today)

Thanks :-)

Thai Prawn And Pineapple Curry, (Kaeng Khua Saparot)

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon garlic, finely chopped
2 tablespoons red curry paste
2 tablespoons chopped tomatoes
2 cups coconut milk
1 cup pineapples (cubed or pulped)
4 tablespoons fish sauce
2 teaspoons palm sugar
1 teaspoon lime juice
16 prawns, about 3 inches long
2-3 kaffir lime leaves, shredded
1 tablespoon Thai red chili peppers, slivered
15 fresh basil leaves

Directions:

1. Peel, devein, and behead the shrimp, leaving only the small tail shells on.
2. Drop two tomatoes into boiling water for about a minute, then remove to cold water, peel, quarter, discard the seed pulp, and chop the flesh.
3. You want 2 tablespoons of chopped tomatoes.
4. In a little oil in a medium hot wok, briefly saute the garlic and basil, removing it and reserving it when the aroma is fully developed.
5. Cook the curry paste briefly to develop the aroma, then add half the coconut milk, the fish sauce, tomatoes, pineapple, lime juice and sugar.
6. Stir to combine fully.
7. Add the prawns and cook until they turn slightly pink and opaque.
8. Add the remainder of the coconut milk, the lime leaves and slivered chili, at the same time returning the sauted garlic and basil to the pan.
9. Transfer to a serving dish and serve with steamed Thai jasmine rice.
