Welsh operators keep it English

"Telephone operators in Wales are being told not to greet callers in the country's native tongue because the language may damage vocal chords.

Union officials say operators who speak primarily English could cause harm to their vocal chords if forced by bosses to offer a traditional "bore da" -- which translates as "good morning" -- or "prynhawn da" -- good afternoon -- to callers, The Times of London reported Tuesday.

The unions were successful in getting the greetings banned in the Vale of Glamorgan council, where officials justified the move by saying it goes along with the Health and Safety Executive's recommendation that call center workers limit their phone time to preserve their vocal chords. "

I suspect it's more "OMGWTFBBQ it's not an old boy's club anymore!!!" complaint than anything serious.....

The BBC is being ruined by women, says Patrick Moore

"Sir Patrick, 84, was asked by the Radio Times if television had got better or worse during a career spanning the medium’s life. The answer was worse – “much worse”. He said: “The trouble is that the BBC now is run by women and it shows: soap operas, cooking, quizzes, kitchen-sink plays. You wouldn’t have had that in the golden days.”

They have even destroyed sci-fi, Sir Patrick’s personal passion. He said: “I used to watch Doctor Who and Star Trek, but they went PC – making women commanders, that kind of thing. I stopped watching.”

Last night roommate ([livejournal.com profile] cormac) was looking though his video collection in the living room

Finally he asked me "do you have any films that AREN'T an abomination before the Lord?"

I guess my fondness for cult films strikes again :-)

We settled on comedy, and "Shawn of the Dead"

Due to the increasing cost of gasoline, I've been using the following system:

Gold Line (Sierra Madre) to Union Station
Red Line (Union Station) to 7th Street / Metro Center
Blue Line (7th Street / Metro Center) to Imperial / Wilmington
Green Line (Imperial / Wilmington) to Aviation
Transfer to Santa Monica "Rapid 3" Big Blue Bus.

This usually gets me to work in 2 hours and 15 minutes. Not *too* bad, all in all. Anymore, unless I NEED my car, I'd rather spend the time listening to podcasts than being annoyed in traffic.

And spending $4.75 a day beats $40 every three to four days.

Okay, those who know me know I HATE coffee. Nothing that smells that good should taste that horrid.

Seattle seems to give off some strange radiation. Forcing people to drink cups and cups of the vile stuff. This explains Starbucks. Indeed, deep inside Starbucks first store is more than likely some strange eldritch object, vibrating like a caffinated elder sign, sending off wave upon wave of coffee energy, forcing people to drink the stuff. The stars in their logo more than likely transmitts it to other stores, but not at the same level that the mother store does.

How ELSE do you explain the fact that, while at Maximillien-In-The-Market, I drank TWO cups of the stuff????

*twitch*

I'm too beautiful for Jail

"JAIL-BOUND socialite Paris Hilton has urged fans to sign a petition to pardon her "mistake" because she "provides beauty and excitement to (most of) our otherwise mundane lives".

The 26-year-old was ordered by a Los Angeles judge on Friday to report to a county jail by June 5 to serve a 45-day sentence for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

Hilton's plea, on her MySpace website, came as her lawyers filed a notice with the court indicating their intent to appeal.

The hotel heiress urged fans to join her in a desperate plea to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to keep her out of jail. "

*gak* Oh poor little rich spoiled clueless brat..... Maybe you'll find a friend in jail

I noticed this afternoon that it was the same temperature in Monrovia that it was in Doha.

However, it was also 1AM in Doha...............

I'd rather be in the 90's during the daytime, thanks
